Awe-Full Client Work
2023
Another great year of sophisticated and fun title designs as well as performance backgrounds and signage.

Roku has truly been a dream client to work with. I was already a huge fan of the brand and their service for years. And then they were just great to create work for, always responsive and intuitive in their asks and critiques. The most fun I had with Roku was definitely in creating the motion design for the NewFront event in May 2024. After building up a great working relationship, they entrusted me alone to pull off the animation and look of the titles on screen behind the speakers. It was a lot of hard work but so much fun. I was able to be on site for the event itself, which was very rewarding. Thanks to help of a great production team and a lot of rehearsing, everything went beautifully without a single mistake or missed queue. You can view the sizzle reel I created for the event here. I hope to continue working with Roku long into the future.

This year for the Upfront Summit, I had the pleasure of not just designing the title screens and some performance backgrounds but also a great deal of the print signage and event decor designs. It was a fun, all-service project that allowed us to keep everything within the same design standards and philosophy.

Last year, the work we did for Upfront Summit 2019 was my “one of my favorite projects to date.” Well, this year’s work has far surpassed that. Like last year, we pitched several ideas to fit along with the location of the 2020 summit— The Rose Bowl Stadium. Coincidentally, the summit was occurring here on the year of the 100th anniversary of the building of the stadium. We settled on a visual style that merged modern icon design with art deco and art nouveau aesthetics. This combined the way the world looked and felt in the 1920s with the way it is now.
In addition to doing the title screens for the main stage during this event, we also had the privilege of designing screens for the ribbon and jumbotron of the stadium (not pictured here) which was a cool perk!

This project was a long labor of love that was a lot of fun to create. The video was made for multiple fundraising events throughout the past year. The video would play on screen while live performers and music would take place on the stage.
You can see more of the events and learn about the Ubuntu Pathways organization on their website here.

This is one of my favorite projects to date. We pitched a few different ideas to fit along with the theme of camping for the 2019 Upfront Summit. They ended up going with our favorite concept focusing on illustration inspired by Boy Scout merit badges. I designed all of the badges and the title screens and did all of the animations. The client ended up liking the work so much that they re-designed much of the other aspects of the conference, such as name badges, pamphlets, and menus, to look more like the title animations.
This project also came with its own challenge in an unconventional window to work in for our essential elements. As you will see in the first two images here, the top corners of the screen were completely covered by the sides of the tent that this conference took place in. The bottom center of the screen was also slightly obstructed by the placement of the chairs for the interviews and panel discussions.

Here is a series of lyric music videos I made for London-based artist FJ Law. The cover art was illustrated by Chelsea Carpenter. She reached out to me to add motion to her work and create lyric animations as well.

This was a really fun project and a welcome change from animation for a couple weeks. The top box design is the final that Johnson’s went with. Included here are some of the other boxes that made it to the final round as well as some of my favorite illustrations that didn’t quite make it (though we tried our damnedest to get that duck-boat design to work).
The final three photos featured weren’t taken or edited by me but I wanted to include some shots of the product from the Johnson’s website. You can also buy any of their bubble bin bundles here.
